Neville Fickling speaks to RA31

Region 31 South Lancashire proudly present Neville Fickling, a name that needs no introduction to pikers, a man who has held the British pike record and has caught over 400 twenty pound plus pike!

Wednesday 3rd March upstairs function room, Caledonian Public House, Bolton Road Ashton in Makerfield, Wigan (next door to Tesco garage). Entry £4 none region members, £3 to members of the region, entry includes free buffet.

Talk starts 8pm.

Neville heads to Northern Ireland


Neville Fickling is set to share some of the ups and downs of his incredible pike fishing career with RA111 over in Northern Ireland in the new year. You can catch up with him at Armagh Community Centre on Thursday, January 8.

Speakers confirmed for Piking 2008

Make note in your diary for Saturday, September 27th to ensure you can make it to Piking 2008 at the National Agricultural Showground, Stoneleigh Park, Coventry.

We now have the full line up of speakers confirmed for what will be an even better show than last year's blockbuster. As well as Neville Fickling's Pike Panel there is an international flavour this year.

More details to follow, but for now we can tell you that Derek MacDonald will be speaking as will Graham Slater of Grantham, and from Europe there will be Michel Huigevoort of Holland and Sweden's P. A. Hogberg. This promises to be a great day with loads of pictures and tales of huge pike to whet your appetite for the start of the traditional pike season a few days later!

More details of the topics to be covered, and other activities on the day, will be posted here and on the main Piking 2008 page in due course.

Neville talks to Thames Gateway PAC

Former record holder Neville Fickling will be taking to the floor for a talk and slide show at Thames Gateway's first gathering of 2008, on Tuesday, January 8.

It will be at their usual watering hole, the Papermaker's Arms in Dartford (7.30pm).

Neville has amassed an almost unequalled tally of big pike from all four corners of the British Isles and it's sure to be an interesting evening.

Admission is £2.50 members, £3 non-members, all welcome.

Manchester regional update

Manchester RO Howard Buffrey's just sent us an update on how things are going up in the North-west.

Our Region is going from strength to strength with new members coming
along to each meeting making a total of 24 which is most encouraging.
Last April was our Annual Award presentation night with prizes and
congratulations going to the following;

Heaviest Pike: 30lbs 13oz. Bill King.
Best Piker: Nick Radcliffe (decided by Club fish-ins)
Outstanding Achievement: Howard Buffrey (new PB 23lbs.)
Best Photograph: Andrew Parkinson. (being a new award which need not
necessarily include pike and was in fact a landscape this time)

We have been successful in booking several excellent speakers for
this new season. These presentations are open to anyone wishing to
attend at our venue which can cater for large numbers

VENUE: Sunnybank Social Club, Helmshore Road, Helmshore (opposite
'The Station' pub), Rossendale BB4 4LQ. Please park on the road.

Meetings commence at 8.00pm, dates as follows:

November 14th. Neville Fickling.

December 12th. Club christmas bash.

January 9th. Steve Ormrod: 'Heaven & Hell'; 10 years of piking on
Wayoh reservoir.

February 13th. Geoff Parkinson: catfish, pike and zander in Holland.

March 12th. Club night.

April 9th. Mark Barrett: Fenland Piking and club presentation night.

July 9th. Dave Lumb: 'Life after piking' (fishing for barbel, tench,
perch etc). This is a special summer treat not to be missed.

Neville Fickling talk at Glossop, Derbys

Former record holder and all round bon viveur Neville Fickling will be sharing some of the ups and downs of his pike fishing career with lads of Region 88, aka The Vassey, at the Conservative Club, Hadfield, Glossop, on Tuesday, February 6.

The meeting starts at 8pm, admission £5 , and we think this bit means that includes supper:
