Scientists were investigating today after five-legged frogs were found in a river.
The Environment Agency said the frogs were found recently in the Peterborough area by a member of the public.
"We are not aware that frogs with this kind of deformity have been seen in this country before - it would be interesting to hear from anyone who has seen them," a spokesman said.
"We not sure what the reason is. A parasite, pollution - they are possibilities. But we've reached no conclusions."
Research in America, where similar frogs have been found, suggests their deformity is caused by a parasite which attacks frog spawn.
